Drill Through in FDMEE

Drill Through is a feature in FDMEE that allows users to see where the data is coming from. When data is loaded through FDMEE, there is a Source and a Target Application. The Source is where the data comes from, and the Target Application is where the data is loaded to. The Drill Through feature gives the user the ability to see what the data looked like in the Source, while they are using the Target Application. Since Drill Through is accessed in the Target Application, the Data Mappings must use at least one explicit mapping in order for the Drill Through to work. There is an Application Option to enable Drill Through, called ‘Drill Region’, which is located in the Target Application Settings (shown at the bottom of the screenshot below).Drill Through001
There is also a ‘Drill Region’ setting in the corresponding Data Load Rule that must be enabled.
Drill Through006
Once the data has been exported to the Target Application using a Data Load Rule, open the Target Application and view the data. In this case, the Target Application was a Hyperion Planning application, called HP, and the data was viewed using a Data Form. When the Data Form is open, if a cell is selected and can be drilled through, the cell will say “This cell is drillable” as seen below.Drill Through002
To open the Drill Through, right-click on the desired cell and click ‘Drill Through’. Drill Through003
Then, click on ‘Drill Through to source’.
Drill Through004
This will Launch the Drill Through Landing Page, which opens another tab in Workspace. Here you can see how the intersections of data were set up in the Source. In this example, an explicit mapping was used for the ‘UnitFlows’ dimension. The explicit mapping linked the [None] member from the Source, to the [UnitFlowsNone] member in the Target Application. [None] is shown in the screenshot below, while [UnitFlowsNone] is shown in the Target Application’s POV in the screenshot above.Drill Through005
